This paper provides an extensive review of the literature on the topics of social capital, cultural capital, growth aspirations, and realized firm growth. A total of 83 articles were used in the study that helped build a conceptual model depicting the relationship and existing links between the four examined variables. Overall, the review found that social and cultural capital both exert a positive influence on growth aspirations and realized growth. A key finding of the study however suggests that this positive influence is best observed when social capital and cultural capital are combined together into a single variable. Furthermore, a circular relationship between growth aspirations and realized growth, moderated by the presence of need and external influences was discovered. Additionally, the paper provides solution to the existing gap in the entrepreneurship literature on the relationship between cultural capital and growth by splitting the cultural capital concept into its building components. Finally, the results of the review are used to describe the practical implications for existing and future entrepreneurs.
